Crystal Palace may spend half of Olise’s release clause on 11-goal winger

Crystal Palace have identified a potential new addition this summer in the shape of a goalscoring winger, as Oliver Glasner looks to continue his revolution at Selhurst Park.

Olise's future in doubt

One of the biggest question marks for the South London outfit surrounds the future of Michael Olise. The talented winger has suffered another injury-studded campaign this season, but remains a highly-sought after talent across the Premier League and Europe.

Chelsea thought that they had bagged a bargain last summer when they triggered his £35m release clause, only for Olise to opt to stay put and pen a new deal at Selhurst Park, which has reportedly seen that clause jump to £60m.

That is not thought to be a major obstacle though, and all of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are thought to be interested in signing him this summer, with United in particular having made him a primary target.

It remains to be seen whether or not he will leave this summer, with reports claiming that he is keen to play Champions League football if he were to leave South London ahead of the new season.

He will add plenty of versatility to Glasner’s squad.

He is not the only player who may depart though, with teammate Eberechi Eze also in high demand across the Premier League, amid interest from Tottenham and Manchester City, though Palace have attempted to ward that off by slapping a £60m price tag on his head too.

Now, it appears Palace are already making plans for new life in attack, and are closely monitoring another young gem.

Palace watching Serie A star

That comes as Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness] claim that Glasner's side are one of several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on young winger Matias Soulé. The 21-year-old Argentine is contracted to Juventus, but has spent the season out on loan with Frosinone, where he has managed to grab 11 goals and 3 assists in 33 Serie A outings.

But he will not be returning to Juventus, the report claims, with the Old Lady looking to cash in on his good form in order to fund their own transfer business. As a result, they 'expect to receive offers' of around 30m-35m euros for his services (£26m-£30m), while Palace and Brentford are named as the two clubs most keen on striking a deal.

And in what could perhaps be a boost for both, Soule has already admitted his dream to play in England's top flight: “If they give me the choice of a league, I would go to England. Everyone knows that it’s one of the best leagues, it would be a dream to play there. I would also like to be able to stay at Juventus.”

The fee represents just about half of what Palace would receive should Olise depart the club this summer, and would allow them plenty of flexibility to strengthen elsewhere ahead of the new season. But they will have to fight off rival Premier League interest should they decide Soule is their man.

Leeds struck gold selling a talent who’s played less than Kalvin Phillips

Leeds United look to be the team in the driver's seat when it comes to clinching that final Championship automatic promotion place, with Millwall already fearful that they could be turned over by Daniel Farke's vibrant Whites this coming Sunday.

Whilst the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have gained the most vocal plaudits, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara have been a formidable, if understated, duo in the holding midfield roles at Elland Road ensuring the defence are protected and the attackers are played into space.

The success stories of both of these new recruits means Leeds are even more content about their decision to offload one ex-Whites star now, who did – once upon a time – cost the West Yorkshire club a substantial £20m transfer fee.

Tyler Adams' time at Leeds

Tyler Adams was a standout performer for the Whites in the midst of very bleak times just last campaign, the 5 foot 9 defensive midfielder endearing himself to the hardened Elland Road masses last season even with relegation eventually staring the side in the face.

The American midfielder would go on to make 26 appearances in all competitions, before being offloaded in the wake of a mass exodus from West Yorkshire last summer to AFC Bournemouth.

This departure – after just one full campaign – would have stung from a Leeds point of view, especially with the expectation that Adams would go on to be a long-term successor to the hole left behind by Kalvin Phillips.

Described as being "monster" by journalist Kevin Koczwara when featuring for his national team that same season, which was seen at Elland Road further by Adams winning 57% of the duels that came his way from 24 top-flight games, the loss of their former £20m man is now more easily stomached with Gruev and Kamara coming into their own.

The loss of Adams is also now an after-thought when you consider how poorly the ex-Leeds number 12 has acclimatised to his new surroundings with the Cherries – the 25-year-old becoming a regular fixture in the treatment room on the South Coast as opposed to starring on the pitch, making just two appearances to date.

This has further resulted in his transfer value taking a serious hit, Leeds cashing in at the perfect possible time, although only breaking even on the move after selling him on for a £20m fee.

Tyler Adams' transfer value in 2024

Adams' value has already decreased to a lesser £15m as per Transfermarkt with the ex-RB Leipzig man just frustrated at how much of his time with the Cherries has been consumed by recurring injury troubles.

Leeds will have moved on from their former American asset quickly however, solid in the fact that Gruev and Kamara are their starters in the holding midfield roles with Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu also competent in adding numbers and more strength to that area if needed.

Amazingly, Adams' injury issues have been so much of a hindrance that he has made fewer appearances than fellow expensive departure Phillips for Bournemouth.

The current West Ham loanee has made just ten appearances in the top flight this season after finally moving away from Manchester City. Despite that, he has now been left out of the latest England squad. It's safe to say life isn't always better after leaving Thorp Arch behind.

Leeds will continue attempting to be a runaway train in the Championship promotion race away from Adams and Phillips, however, blowing away teams on the way to what they hope will be an immediate surge back up to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, at the Vitality Stadium, Adams will just be aiming to get back to full fitness soon to revitalise his fading career.

8/10 Nottingham Forest ace looked back to his best vs Wolves

da 888: Nottingham Forest claimed a vital point in their hunt for Premier League survival at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon, after the 2-2 draw against Gary O'Neil's Wolves side.

da betcris: The Reds fell behind with just minutes remaining in the first half after a brilliant strike from forward Matheus Cunha flashed past the helpless Matz Sels and into the top corner.

However, former Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White brought Nuno Espírito Santo's side level just before the interval, before linking up well with Brazilian midfielder Danilo in the second half to put Forest into the lead.

The lead would be short-lived with Cunha grabbing his second of the game just minutes later, with either side unable to go on and claim all three points.

One Reds player, in particular, enjoyed a brilliant display against their Midlands rivals, proving himself to be a key player under Nuno in recent weeks.

Danilo's stats against Wolves

22-year-old midfielder Danilo has started each of the Reds' last three Premier League outings, cementing his place as a regular starter after his recent impressive performances.

However, yesterday might have been his best game in a Forest shirt since Nuno's arrival, with the Brazilian dominating the midfield and even having a positive impact in the final third – scoring the second goal for Nuno's side in an end-to-end encounter.

His impressive display didn't stop there, with Danilo also managing 67 touches and completing 39 of the 48 passes he attempted during the meeting, achieving a pass completion rate of 81%.

He was just as successful in the final third, registering three shots, all of which were on target, as he added a needed threat in front of goal due to the absence of winger Anthony Elanga.

The Brazilian also won 75% of the duels that he contested, making two interceptions and one tackle as the box-to-box midfielder was crucial at both ends during the draw.

Danilo was awarded an 8/10 match rating from Nottinghamshire Live's Forest correspondent Sarah Clapson, with the youngster receiving the joint-best rating alongside fellow goalscorer Gibbs-White.

At times this campaign, he's certainly lacked confidence, but this weekend he looked back to his best and replicated his good form from the back end of last season that saw the youngster score three goals in as many games against Brighton, Southampton and Brentford.

The man to partner Danilo going forward

After nailing down his starting role at the base of Nuno's three-man midfield, Danilo has often been partnered with various teammates such as Ibrahim Sangare and Ryan Yates.

The latter started the game yesterday, before making a horrendous error gifting the ball to the visitors, with Murillo saving the midfielder with his excellent goal-line clearance.

Danilo and Murillo

Nicolas Dominguez was brought on in the 66th minute, with the Argentinian proving why he should start alongside Danilo after four recoveries and 26 passes in just 24 minutes – tallies that were both better than Yates despite featuring for 42 minutes less.

His relentless work rate makes the former Bologna man a perfect fit alongside the 22-year-old, with Nuno needing to deploy the pair together to help ensure Premier League survival for Forest this season.

Jake Libby, Brett D'Oliveira tons put Worcestershire in control

239-run partnership puts hosts in control at New Road

ECB Reporters Network08-Aug-2020Jake Libby scored a hundred on his home debut for Worcestershire as he and fellow centurion Brett D’Oliveira dominated proceedings after an initial three-wicket burst by Glamorgan paceman Michael Hogan in the Bob Willis Trophy encounter at Blackfinch New Road. The pair came together at 70 for 3 shortly before lunch and Libby, signed during the close season from Nottinghamshire on a three-year contract, completed the sixth first-class ton of his career from 205 balls with 11 boundaries. He ended unbeaten on 142 from 261 deliveries with one six and 14 fours.D’Oliveira went to his century from 183 balls with 14 fours and the stand was worth an unbroken 239 in 64 overs – a new record for Worcestershire’s fourth wicket in matches against Glamorgan. He finished on 123 from 206 balls with one six and 15 boundaries as Worcestershire closed on 309 for 3 from 91 overs.Libby followed on from his 77 in his first appearance for his new county in the eight-wicket success against Gloucestershire at Bristol. He had indicated a willingness to open when he signed for Worcestershire and fill the berth alongside Daryl Mitchell which has often been problematic in recent years.Libby was Nottinghamshire’s leading run-scorer in the County Championship in 2018 but a flux of signings restricted his red ball opportunities last summer at Trent Bridge and he ended his six-year association with the club. Worcestershire are hoping the best years of the 27-year-old lie ahead in the same way as they have recruited Gareth Roderick for next season from Gloucestershire.Libby had one slice of good fortune when dropped on 43 at second slip by Charlie Hemphrey off Timm van der Gugten but otherwise batted with great authority and received a standing ovation from his team-mates when he reached three figures.D’Oliveira also played a sparkling knock which maintained his fine start to the truncated campaign after his unbeaten 91 versus Gloucestershire. He had struck 14 fours before he reached his hundred with a square drive for two off Hogan which then resulted in four overthrows. The 28-year-old was also grateful to Hemphrey for a spilled chance at slip when on 67 as he went to cut spinner Kieran Bull.Hogan had been the star performer during the morning session when two spells produced combined figures of 9-3-15-3. But he was unable to add to his tally during the afternoon or evening session to leave him still one short of 600 first-class wickets in his career. The 39-year-old had dismissed Daryl Mitchell and Tom Fell in his opening spell and returned to account for Jack Haynes shortly before lunch.Worcestershire brought back Dillon Pennington for rested paceman Josh Tongue while Glamorgan recalled Tom Cullen and van der Gugten at the expense of Marchant de Lange and the injured Ruaidhri Smith (hamstring injury).Hogan dismissed Mitchell for a duck with the fourth delivery of the day after he flicked at a delivery down the leg side and keeper Chris Cooke held onto a fine catch away to his left.New batsman Fell had a left off when Cooke failed to hold onto a difficult chance from another testing Hogan delivery – but it did not prove to be a costly miss. On eight, he nicked another ball from Hogan and this time Cooke made no mistake with a sharp low catch.Libby and Jack Haynes attempted to rebuild the innings and experienced few alarms in adding 48 in 16 overs. But then Hogan’s return accounted for Haynes (21) when the England Under-19 batsman went for an ambitious hook and holed out to Dan Douthwaite on the backward square leg boundary.D’Oliveira and Libby batted with plenty of fluency after joining forces. A straight drive for four off van Gugten completed a half century for Libby from 94 balls with seven boundaries. D’Oliveira cut Douthwaite for four to bring up his half century from 78 balls and also the 100 partnership in the 34th over. The fourth-wicket pair both hit two boundaries apiece in successive overs from spinner Bull and accelerated in the final session as the milestones of a personal and team nature were clocked up.

Jake Fraser-McGurk to return home after being scratched by a monkey

The incident took place on an off-day at a nature reserve in Kimberley

Jake Fraser-McGurk will not take any further part at the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa and return home instead as a precautionary measure after being scratched on the face by a monkey at a nature reserve while on a team outing in Kimberley.Australia’s dreams of winning the title for a fourth time ended on Tuesday after they went down to India, and Fraser-McGurk had a particularly forgettable time of it, run-out first ball – without facing a ball – in Australia’s unsuccessful chase of 234.The incident at the nature park took place when the team took a break following their last-ball win over England on January 23, and after consultation with medical staff and family members, “it was deemed necessary for Fraser-McGurk to return to Australia for precautionary treatment within seven days of the accident”, a Cricket Australia statement said, adding that “Australia will consider calling in a replacement for Fraser-McGurk for the final two matches of the tournament”.Alex Kountouris, the CA sports science and sports medicine manager, was confident Fraser-McGurk would not suffer any ongoing issues after treatment. “We want to make sure that Jake doesn’t have any ongoing medical concerns as a result of the incident, so we have taken the best course of action,” he said. “This involves the player returning to Australia for the treatment required within the recommended seven days of the incident taking place.”We expect Jake will be available for selection shortly after he has completed the treatment.”Seventeen-year-old Fraser-McGurk, who made his first-class debut for Victoria in November last year, said “You never like to be leaving the boys with the tournament still in progress. But I’m confident we have the team to get the job done in the final two matches.”I guess it serves me right for getting too close to the animal enclosure. That’s a lesson learned. I look forward to completing the treatment and getting back on the field as soon as possible.”

'On me today, guys' – Robert Sanchez issues heartfelt apology after early red card cost Chelsea dear in Man Utd defeat

In the aftermath of Chelsea's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the Old Trafford on Saturday, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has issued a heartfelt apology to his team-mates and the Blues' fans. The Spaniard was sent off in the fifth minute of the game after a rash challenge on Bryan Mbeumo just outside the penalty area, which cost the visitors dearly.

Sanchez takes accountability for Chelsea's loss

Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez has issued a heartfelt apology in the wake of his team's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday. Sanchez was sent off in the fifth minute after a mistimed challenged denied Bryan Mbeumo a clear goalscoring opportunity, leaving the visitors handicapped.

AdvertisementGetty Images'Big sorry' for the red card

Taking to social media after the game, Sanchez asked for forgiveness and took the blame of Chelsea's first league defeat of this season upon his shoulders. "On me today guys, big sorry for that, team put a massive effort in the second half but couldn't get there," the former Brighton keeper wrote on his Instagram story.

Unwanted history made by the Chelsea No.1

Sanchez's disastrous early red card earned him a place in both Chelsea and Premier League history books. Indeed, no other Chelsea player has ever been sent off earlier in the top-flight, while only two other goalkeepers have managed to be sent off earlier.

GettyHow many games will Sanchez miss?

Given that referee Peter Bankes sent him off for denying the opposition player a clear-cut goalscoring chance, the Spanish international will only serve a one-match suspension. He will be unavailable for Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash against Lincoln City, but will return for next weekend's Premier League outing against his former employers Brighton.

Crystal Palace struck gold with “superb” gem who’s now worth 650% more

da spicy bet: In recent years, Crystal Palace have developed an excellent transfer strategy that allows them to pick up bargains every window.

da dobrowin: However, they have also proven to be successful at developing those talents into top players, which will now be the task of new boss Oliver Glasner.

Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze are two examples of their brilliant recruitment, and they are hoping Daniel Munoz and Adam Wharton will continue this run.

That said, there’s one player that stands out who has seen their market value increase since joining the club.

What Palace paid for Michael Olise

Prior to his move to Palace, Michael Olise was playing his football for Reading in the Championship, the club he made his professional debut at, which was in a 3-0 defeat to Leeds United in 2019.

However, it would be two seasons later that he really started to show his class and immense quality, as over his first two campaigns, the winger made 23 appearances in the second division, picking up just one assist.

That said, during the 2020/21 he announced himself as one of the most exciting talents in England, boasting an incredible record of seven goals and 12 assists in 37 starts, playing as both an attacking midfielder and a winger.

The following summer, Patrick Vieira decided to splash £8m on the left-footed ace, in what has proved to be one of the best steals in recent Premier League history.

Michael Olise’s market value in 2024

Since arriving at the Eagles, Olise has continued to develop as a player, and despite the step up to the Premier League often being overwhelming, the now-22-year-old wasn’t fazed one bit.

The number seven had his minutes managed in the first season, starting just 12 games but playing 26 matches in the league, with a record of two goals and five assists.

Last season, his creativity really began to flourish, as he picked up 11 assists and played in all but one game in the top flight. Unfortunately, injuries have ruined this campaign for Olise, missing 13 games, but he’s started to develop his goal-scoring ability, netting six goals and providing three assists in just eight starts.

One game this season that sums up what Olise’s all about was against Brentford at home when the Eagles won 3-1, and the table below highlights why he’s now valued 650% more than what he cost the club, with recent reports indicating that he could fetch a fee of roughly £60m this summer.

The fact that Olise has added goals to his game now makes him “superb,” as per Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, while also putting him among the elite wingers who can both create and find the back of the net themselves.

The France U21 gem can also be a threat via his dribbling or his passing, which makes him extremely unpredictable and difficult to stop. His work rate is also unbelievable, and he is willing to get stuck in for his side, which just makes him even more valuable.

Michael Olise

The signing of Olise will go down as one of the bargains of the past decade, especially if he continues to live up to his potential, and Palace will hope that they can unearth plenty more Olise-like talents in the future.

The announcement comes after a painful journey for Perrie and Alex, who have suffered not one but two devastating miscarriages. The singer bravely opened up earlier this year on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, admitting that her first pregnancy ended almost as soon as it began.

“So I had a miscarriage very early on with my first ever pregnancy, and it was so early,” she said. “I remember finding out I was pregnant. Obviously, I started bleeding not long after, and I went to the hospital and I had the scan and they were like, ‘There’s no baby.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something.’ And I remember being on my own at the appointments because nobody was there.”

When she later carried Axel, born in August 2021, Perrie admitted she was constantly fearful of history repeating itself. She confessed to feeling “on edge” throughout the pregnancy, longing just to make it past the 12-week scan. That fear became reality again during Little Mix’s farewell tour in 2022, when Perrie miscarried at 20 weeks.

The 32-year-old remains a free agent and is now weighing up his next move. Reports suggest Leeds United are monitoring his situation, while Birmingham City are also believed to be interested in bringing him back to English football.
