Sky Sports: Man Utd eye move for new "unplayable" ace to replace Rashford

da betobet: Manchester United are now considering a late swoop for an “unplayable” Premier League attacker, with Marcus Rashford closing in on a move to Aston Villa, according to Sky Sports.

Rashford's time at Old Trafford coming to an end

da dobrowin: Rashford has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford ever since a bombshell interview in December, in which the forward expressed he is “ready for a new challenge”, and he is now set to seal a move away from his boyhood club.

The United academy graduate is due to have a medical to complete a move to Villa Park, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing the Villans will have the option to make the deal permanent for a fee of £40m at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has not been a part of Ruben Amorim’s plans for nearly two months, with his last Premier League appearance coming against Nottingham Forest back in December, and the manager recently hinted he hasn’t been giving 100% in training.

“It’s always the same reason – the training, the way I see a footballer should do in life. It’s every day, every detail. You can see on the bench we miss a bit of pace on the bench, but I would put [Manchester United goalkeeper coach Jorge] Vital before a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”

With Rashford now poised to leave, Amorim is now tasked with finding a replacement, and Sky Sports report that Villa’s Leon Bailey is one of the players “under consideration” for a late transfer swoop.

The potential deal to sign Bailey would be separate from the Rashford move, which has seemingly already been agreed, with the Englishman set to undergo a medical.

Aston Villa'sLeonBaileyin action with Celtic's Greg Taylor

The Villa winger is just one of the names under consideration for a move to Old Trafford, with the Red Devils yet to make a formal approach, but there could be developments before the deadline on Monday.

What Bailey could offer Man Utd

The £120k-per-week attacker has looked impressive at times in a Villa shirt, and he was particularly potent in front of goal during the 2023-24 campaign, amassing 19 goal contributions in 35 Premier League games to help his side secure Champions League football.

The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell has lauded the 27-year-old as “unplayable” during his time with the Villans, however, he has struggled to replicate last season’s form this term, picking up just one goal and three assists in all competitions.

As such, there is some doubt over whether Bailey would be a solid signing to replace Rashford, but United’s options are likely to be limited at this stage of the transfer window, and he could make an impact if he is able to rediscover his previous form, making this one to watch.

Khawaja, Smith and Head pummel SA to put Australia in command

Usman Khawaja made his highest Test score, while Steven Smith overtook Sir Donald Bradman in the record books with his 30th Test hundred, as Australia gained a stranglehold on the third Test against a hapless South Africa.Khawaja was ruthless on a slow SCG surface to finish unbeaten on 195 and anchor Australia’s massive 475 for 4. Another strong Australian batting effort put them on track for a clean sweep of the series with victory to secure a position in the World Test Championship final in June. They also completely sucked the life out of a beleaguered South Africa, who have been out of answers. With just four wickets in 131 overs, the spotlight might further shine on under-pressure skipper Dean Elgar who has seemingly been reactionary and conservative with his tactics. He juggled his bowlers sometimes bafflingly like when Nortje and spearhead Kagiso Rabada were not used after lunch with offspinner Simon Harmer taking an almost brand new ball.Harmer had been under-bowled on day one and in the first session, but struggled to make an impact and was hit for a huge six by a fleet-footed Smith.Nortje couldn’t quite summon the same fire he conjured during his heroic day one effort, where he claimed the only two wickets, while Rabada was wayward to continue a disappointing series. There was relief for left-arm spinner Maharaj after removing Smith out of nowhere. He was finally rewarded having leaked 247 runs off 75.5 overs in the series before his long overdue first scalp.Their chances of a victory to revive their slim chances of making the World Test Championship final appear forlorn. To avoid a series whitewash, South Africa might need Sydney’s temperamental weather to further intervene.

"First choice" target: Arsenal want £120k-p/w ace who’d make Saka better

While there is still every chance that Arsenal can turn around their current form and finally win the Premier League this season, that is starting to feel more and more of a distant possibility with every passing game.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been almost faultless for the last two seasons, but so far this year, injuries, suspensions, and a blunt attack have seen them fall off the pace in the league and face the prospect of elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Newcastle United.

However, despite how gloomy things might look at this current moment, the Gunners remain a sensational football team, and with players such as Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, there is every chance they will come back stronger next season and finally haul themselves over the finishing line.

In fact, if recent reports are to be believed, the club’s number one transfer target for the summer could be just the player to help them do that, a player so sublime that he’d help the irrepressible Saka reach another level as well.

Arsenal chase dream teammate for Saka

According to a recent report from former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown via Football Insider, Arsenal have maintained their significant interest in Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.

Brown goes a step further, revealing that the Gunners have identified the Swedish goal machine as their “first choice” striker target for the summer window.

Moreover, while Brown explains the Toon’s desire to keep the former Real Sociedad star beyond the summer, he claims that the North Londoners are “determined” to bring him to the Emirates.

Alexander Isak celebrates for Newcastle

If Arteta and Co get their man, it’ll cost a pretty penny, with reports from earlier this month claiming his price tag could be as high as £150m.

Now, while that is undoubtedly an extraordinary amount of money for a single player, it could prove worth it given his sensational ability, especially as he could help Saka reach another level entirely.

How Isak would make Saka better

Okay, so while there are likely a myriad of reasons why Isak could help Saka reach another level, from how he trains to his attitude on the pitch and in the dressing room, there is one primary reason: his output.

Simply put, the “world-class” marksman, as dubbed by manager Eddie Howe, is such an incredibly dangerous player in front of, or practically anywhere near, the goal that he’d undoubtedly send the Englishman’s numbers to the moon.

For example, just this season alone, the Swedish “nightmare,” as dubbed by Alan Shearer, has racked up an outrageous tally of 15 goals and four assists in 22 appearances, which equates to an absurd average of a goal involvement every 1.15 games.

In contrast, Kai Havertz has done reasonably well in racking up a haul of 12 goals and three assists in 26 appearances, while Gabriel Jesus has been less effective, racking up seven goals and two assists in as many appearances.

Now, while neither of these returns are abysmal, they aren’t spectacular either, and at an average of a goal involvement every 1.73 games for Havertz and every 2.88 games for Jesus, neither one is remotely close to what the Solna-born superstar is capable of.

Moreover, the Gunners’ strikers were able to achieve their level of output with a significant helping hand from Saka, who, prior to his hamstring injury, was on fire, racking up a world-class haul of nine goals and 13 assists in 24 appearances, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.09 games.

Just imagine what the Newcastle star would be capable of playing alongside a winger as productive and creative as the Hale Ender, and then you may understand why we think it would be a partnership that would see both players reach stratospheric heights.

Ultimately, signing Isak in the summer will cost Arsenal an arm and a leg, but given just how deadly he has been this season and the potential of how much better he could be with the likes of Saka and Odegaard around him, it may just be worth breaking the bank for him.

Lewandowski is having the most impressive season of his career at Barcelona and is on track to hit 50 goals by the end of the campaign. However, with the Polish striker set to turn 37 in August and his playing days numbered, Barca are said to be considering their options up-front.

The Catalans are keen to line up a replacement for the former Bayern Munich No.9 over the next year. According to a report from SPORT, Juventus have offered Barca the chance to sign out-of-favour striker Dusan Vlahovic, but the club's transfer chiefs are not sold on the Serb, who has been linked with a move to either Saudi Arabia or the Premier League.

Another name mentioned in the report is that of Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. The Serie A side are set to part ways with the Nigeria international once and for all this summer, and will look to offload him for a price of €75m. Barca, though, believe that the player's wages as well as his transfer fee are well beyond their financial capabilities at the moment.

DID YOU KNOW?

Earlier this month, reports from Spain also revealed that Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who is currently set to depart Anfield as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract in June, also offered himself to Barcelona. That move was, however, turned down by Barcelona owing to the Egyptian's €18m-a-season wages. It is believed that the La Liga giants asked Salah to take a massive pay-cut if he wanted to join them.

Hansi Flick's men have a gruelling fixture calendar in the coming weeks, but have already managed to secure two comfortable wins after the international break and lead La Liga by three points with nine games to go. Their next game sees them face rivals Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Wednesday, with the score level at 4-4 following a thrilling first encounter.

Arsenal in pole position to sign Spanish gem who will soon be a free agent

da dobrowin: Arsenal now lead several European sides in the race to sign an exciting talent who will be available for nothing in 2025, according to a fresh report, as they look to continue their quest for Premier League dominance.

Arsenal back on track after sticky Premier League period

da 888casino: Mikel Arteta’s side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over high-flying Nottingham Forest as they returned to winning ways in north London.

It had been a tricky period for the Gunners prior to the November international break, with the Premier League title hopefuls winning just two of their last seven games across all competitions and not having won in the Premier League since a 3-1 win over Southampton at the beginning of October.

Losses to Newcastle and Bournemouth, combined with draws against Chelsea and Liverpool, had left them well adrift in the Premier League title race.

However, their latest win, combined with a 4-0 loss for reigning champions Manchester City at the hands of their north London rivals Tottenham, moved Arsenal to within a point of the Cityzens, albeit still a long way behind current Premier League leaders Liverpool.

With a favourable run of games ahead, Arteta and his side will be hoping to put together a run of form like that which they have watched Manchester City manage in the last two seasons to ultimately beat them to top spot.

Attention is already beginning to turn to transfers though, with Arsenal keen to strengthen their attack in the coming windows. Now, they could have identified a bargain.

Arsenal in pole position to sign Spanish talent

That comes according to Caught Offside, who name Arsenal as the leader in the race to sign Malaga teenage talent Antonio Cordero, ahead of the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and PSG.

The teenage sensation is currently plying his trade in La Liga 2, having scored the goal to get Malaga back into the second tier of Spanish football. Only 18 years old, he has managed three goals and three assists in 13 outings for the south-coast side this season and has caught the eye of several of Europe’s elite.

Arsenal have unleashed their next Fabregas & it’s not Nwaneri or Odegaard

Ethan Nwaneri and Martin Odegaard starred as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest.

ByMatt Dawson Nov 24, 2024

He is seen as a Spanish talent with huge potential, with Rising Stars XI taking to X to hail his “world-class” performance against local rivals Granada and adding that the forward is “a very technically gifted winger, a great shot creator and very fast”.

Though right-footed, he is comfortable playing on either side of attack and is out of contract this summer, meaning that he could leave for free in a matter of months.

And Caught Offside report that “Arsenal have been courting” the teenager and are leading the chase, though they “face stiff competition for the player’s signature”, with the report suggesting that a January move could be on the cards as Malaga look to receive a fee for their talent.

Any move would likely be a low-risk one from the Gunners, with Cordero unlikely to become part of the first team immediately given the current options in wide areas. Raheem Sterling, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus can all play across the front line as well as regular starters Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz, and Arteta is already trying to integrate one young talent in the form of Ethan Nwaneri, meaning that Cordero is unlikely to see much game time should he remain in north London.

A low-cost signing though, the Spaniard could arrive before being sent out on loan to gain more experience with a view to future integration.

Brighton stance on selling "high level" Maddison alternative to Tottenham

da jogodeouro: Tottenham Hotspur are looking at a potential alternative to playmaker James Maddison in the form of a “high level” Argentine star, with the £170,000-per-week midfielder’s inconsistent form symbolic of Spurs’ season so far.

In truth, despite some fantastic performances here and there, the nature of Maddison’s stop-and-start form eventually cause ex-England boss Gareth Southgate to lose faith – and he decided to exclude the 27-year-old from his squad for Euro 2024.

Maddison has also missed their last two rounds of qualifiers for the Nations League, sitting out their international ties in both September and October, with the ex-Norwich City loanee also set to watch on at home as England prepare for clashes against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Reports have suggested that Tottenham are monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk starlet Georgiy Sudakov as a potential stand-in for Maddison, so the club may have plans to sign players in a similar mold, who could either alternate or challenge him for a place in the team.

“I don’t think you pick national teams on the back of a free-kick, to be fair. I think you need more than that. So that’s the first thing,” said Postecoglou on Maddison’s form, challenging him to earn back his England place.

“Look, secondly, it’s with all these things I’ve always said, team selection, squad selection, it’s more in the players’ hands than the managers’, they’re the ones that need to put up the compelling evidence for people to make decisions.

“When I select a team on the weekend or when the England manager selects his squad, he’s doing it on the back of the evidence he has before him. So if you miss out, well then you’ve got to say: ‘OK, well I’ve got to give you more compelling evidence next time to get back in there.’

“I’ve never come across a manager who doesn’t select what he thinks is the best team for what he wants and the purpose of his sort of brief. So, whether it’s Madders or anyone else, they’ve just got to keep putting up the evidence that means they get selected for the next national team.”

Brighton stance as Tottenham look at signing Facundo Buonanotte

Another possible alternative to the Englishman is Brighton and Hove Albion attacker Facundo Buonanotte. The Argentine has been excellent on loan at Leicester City this season, bagging three goals and two assists in all competitions as one of Steve Cooper’s bright sparks, and The Boot Room claim Tottenham are looking at Buonanotte – whlst also sharing Brighton’s sale stance.

“When he brakes and accelerates, he reminds me of [Lionel] Messi,” said former Man City star Carlos Tevez. “He is at a very high level.”

Unfortunately, it’s bad news for Spurs and perhaps Leicester too, as the Seagulls have no plans on letting their 19-year-old starlet go permanently at this stage.

Major Adam Wharton injury update provided before Wolves vs Crystal Palace

da dobrowin: Crystal Palace have been handed a raft of injury blows ahead of their clash with Wolves as they look for just their second win of the Premier League season, it has emerged.

Crystal Palace win in midweek but at huge cost

da betsson: Oliver Glasner’s side claimed a surprise 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup, setting up a quarter-final tie with Arsenal in the process. Goals from Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada proved too much for Unai Emery’s side as the Eagles marched into the last eight of the competition on the hunt for the first mjor trophy in their history.

However, the win came at a cost. Eze was forced off with an injury just minutes after opening the scoring, before England teammate Adam Wharton was also forced out of action before the half hour mark, handing Glasner further injury woes.

Their exits added to a casualty list that already sees Jefferson Lerma, Chris Richards, Chadi Riad and Matheus Franca sidelined, but after the game Glasner tried to be positive.

“Adam is a more positive one because it is nothing new. We spoke about it many times; he has had groin problems for many months. We thought he needed a break today, but he gave the thumbs up and said he was fine. But the pain got worse during the game, so we had to make a second sub. Especially with the circumstances, I am very proud of the performance.”

However, the latest update is less than ideal for the Eagles.

Palace midfielder set for surgery

That comes as Glasner faced the media ahead of his side’s trip to Molineux to face winless Wolves, and had some bad news on the injury front. Firstly, he ruled Eze, Lerma, Riad, Richards and Franca all out of games until after the upcoming international break, but the worst news came regarding Wharton.

The midfielder, who has been managing an injury all season, is now set for surgery and at least a month on the sidelines, Glasner confirmed, meaning that he will miss at least five games of Premier League action.

‘We took the final decision: he will have surgery, so he won’t be available for Wolves. He tried [to train] today, but there’s too much pain, and it makes no sense. He’s really struggled the last weeks and months, and so now we took the decision he will have surgery, and we hope to have him back after, let’s say, four weeks.’

The news will come as a blow to Palace, who had just begun to show shoots of improvement following a tragic start to the campaign as new signings tried to acclimatise to life at Selhurst Park, but with the 20-year-old and Glasner having both known about and managing the injury since the summer, they will be hoping that the surgery will mark the end of his issues.

Meanwhile, the damage of Wharton’s absence will be mitigated by the return of Cheick Doucoure, who will be part of a matchday squad for the first time this season when Palace take on Wolves this weekend, the Palace boss confirmed.
