Shakib Al Hasan returned to Bangladesh’s World Cup camp in Kolkata on Thursday evening, cutting short his three-day Dhaka trip to two days. Shakib had gone to Dhaka on October 25 to have a nets session with his childhood mentor Nazmul Abedeen Fahim.Bangladesh trained at Eden Gardens on Wednesday under lights, without Shakib of course, who had taken the evening flight from Dhaka. He reached the team hotel around 8.45pm where the team manager Rabeed Imam received him. Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe, on his way out to dinner, also met Shakib at the reception.According to the team management, Shakib didn’t tell them that he was returning home for cricketing reasons. Team director Khaled Mahmud, who is the head of the Bangladesh delegation in India, said that Shakib had said it was for “personal reasons” that he was going to Dhaka from Mumbai the day after their 149-run defeat to South Africa.”We have no idea about this,” Mahmud had told the Dhaka-based on Wednesday. “He may have gone to Fahim since he is not batting well. But we didn’t know about this. [Wednesday] was travel and rest day. [Thursday] is optional training. That’s why coach gave him the two-day break. He said that he had some personal matters in Dhaka. We know that much only.”Shakib reached Dhaka on Wednesday morning, going straight to the Shere Bangla National Stadium nets where Fahim met him. Shakib batted under his watch for three hours.Shakib has struggled with the bat at this World Cup, having scored just 56 runs in four innings. He has taken six wickets so far.Bangladesh have an afternoon training session in Kolkata on October 27, with the match against Netherlands on the following day.
Heading into Wednesday’s start, it had been two years, nine months and 15 days since Corey Kluber’s last career shutout. In the time between, the man who once topped 200 innings for five straight years pitched just 26 times over three seasons, fighting through injuries and ineffectiveness to desperately rediscover the form that once made him so dominant.
Against the Rangers at Globe Life Field, "Klubot" validated his comeback by reaching heights he hadn't even breached during his two Cy Young campaigns.
Kluber struck out nine batters and needed 101 pitches in throwing the 12th no-hitter in Yankees history, completing a return to his old self that had been years in the making and had really taken hold in the past few weeks. Kluber is 4–0 in his last five starts, with a 1.78 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings, giving the Yankees a second ace behind Gerrit Cole to form one of the best one-two punches in the American League.
Beyond Kluber’s resurgence, Wednesday’s no-hitter simultaneously felt significant and mundane, and for the same reason: There have been so many darn no-hitters! Kluber’s was the sixth no-hitter of the season—not counting Madison Bumgarner’s seven-inning edition—and second in less than 24 hours. Three teams—the Rangers, Mariners and Cleveland—have been no-hit twice this season, which is an incredible sentence to type in mid-May (or any time, really). The conditions for throwing a no-hitter have never been more optimal, but it’s safe to say this is getting to be a bit much.
There are just 11 games on the schedule for Thursday. Only nine of them are slated for nine innings, hurting the chances this streak will live to see its third day. But given what we’ve seen so far, it’s best to be on high alert, just in case.

Man City reach seven FA Cup semi-finals in a row
da esport bet: The Blues secured their place in the last four of England’s oldest competition on Sunday afternoon, as they came from a goal down to beat AFC Bournemouth 2-1. The FA Cup represents City’s only chance of winning silverware this season, and Guardiola believes his side were “outstanding” in their win over the Cherries.

Man City won their FA Cup semi-final 2-1 on Sunday
ByJoe Nuttall Mar 31, 2025
“It was harder for them [Bournemouth]. We played an outstanding game and had incredible chances but missed a penalty. We conceded with one chance we gave away. Our approach was magnificent. Seven times in a row in the semi-final in the FA Cup, no team has done it, and it will be difficult for any other to do what these legendary players, the new ones and the old ones, will have done,” Guardiola told the BBC.
Pep was then asked about City reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for a seventh consecutive season, and he labelled it an “unbelievable” achievement.
“It is unbelievable. The way we competed today compared to the way we played in the first game here [in the Premier League]. I was not good enough to overcome that situation then. We were sloppy for many games, and I was not able to let them realise is what they have done today. For example, Brighton was a difficult game; we didn’t play our best, but we fought. This is what had to happen.”
Man City could sanction Grealish exit as Pep plans busy summer
Despite possible success in the FA Cup, it has been a poor campaign for the Blues, and therefore, there is expected to be plenty of incomings and outgoings come the summer.
According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man City could look to sell Jack Grealish this summer as the Blues plan a busy summer of change.
Plettenberg states that City are planning a squad overhaul in the summer, and with them holding an interest in players such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Larsson, the likes of İlkay Gündoğan and Kevin De Bruyne are likely departures when their contracts expire, while Grealish could also be moved on despite his not ending until 2026.
Grealish, who earns £300,000 a week at the Etihad Stadium, has struggled for regular game time this season, playing just 16 times in the Premier League, six of which have been starts, and the last one came in the defeat to Aston Villa back in December.
Despite the lack of game time, Guardiola has continued to heap praise on the Englishman, labelling him “incredible”.

“I want him to make goals and assists, and he does too, but it’s not about that. It’s about his contribution without the ball and what he can produce for the other ones. We didn’t sign Jack Grealish for the incredible goals or assists at Aston Villa. It was for another reason. He competes with top, top players as well, and he knows it perfectly. He never complains about that.”

The big debate at Leeds United currently concerns the number one position at Elland Road amid questions over Illan Meslier’s suitability for the team this season.
Daniel Farke has already confirmed that Karl Darlow will be between the sticks when the Whites face off against Luton Town in the Championship this weekend, which will be a huge chance for the former Newcastle United man to nail down a place in the side.
The West Yorkshire outfit are currently competing for promotion to the Premier League – sat in second place as it stands – and the Wales international now has an opportunity to play a key role in an ascension to the top-flight.
Darlow has yet to make a Championship appearance for Leeds this season, but has kept two clean sheets in three Nations League matches for Wales, and it remains to be seen if he can be an upgrade on the French stopper.
Meslier’s form for the Whites throughout the 2024/25 campaign has been a concern, though, and it seems like the right call for Farke to take him out of the firing line this weekend.
Why Leeds are right to drop Illan Meslier
The former Lorient goalkeeper was in the spotlight once again when Leeds were held to a 2-2 draw by Swansea last weekend after he fumbled a cross to allow Harry Darling to score and let a shot from Zan Vipotnik squirm under him at the near post – undoing the good work he did to save a penalty.
He has started all 39 of the club’s matches in the Championship so far this term and that clash with the Swans was far from the first time that he has let the side down.
The left-footed dud has conceded 2.73 more goals than expected, based on the xG of the shots against his goal, which suggests that the Frenchman has been well below average as a shot-stopper.
Meslier has also made three errors that have directly led to goals for the opposition this season, the most famous of which may well be the one against Sunderland in the last minute at the Stadium of Light.
All of this suggests that Farke is right to finally take the 25-year-old liability out of the starting line-up because he has underperformed as a shot-stopper and made too many errors to gift goals to the opposition.
Meslier’s poor form this season has also caused some supporters to look back at former goalkeepers who have been let go during the French flop’s time at Elland Road, including Italian stopper Elia Caprile.
Leeds United's error with Elia Caprile
The young goalkeeper spent two-and-a-half years with the club’s academy, keeping five clean sheets in 19 U21 matches, and was sent out on loan to the third tier of Italian football in the 2021/22 campaign.
Caprile kept 12 clean sheets in 36 Serie C matches in that season, whilst Meslier had started all 38 of the club’s Premier League games under Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch combined.
At that point, it did not seem realistic that the Italian would overtake the Frenchman because he had just played third tier football, whilst the Leeds number one was playing week-in-week-out in the top-flight.
That led to Victor Orta and Marsch sanctioning a deal to send Caprile to Serie B side Bari on a permanent deal, which turned out to be an error on the club’s part as he went on to join Napoli one year later.

As you can see in the table above, he has spent the last two seasons on loan at Empoli and Cagliari in the Serie A and caught the eye with his impressive shot-stopping skills.
This suggests that Leeds messed up with Caprile, because he is currently outperforming Meslier whilst playing in a major league, but it was difficult for the club to predict that rise after he had played in the third tier in Italy.
A bigger blunder by Leeds was their decision to allow Joel Robles to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, as he could have been a dream replacement for the French dud.
Why Joel Robles was the perfect Illan Meslier replacement
The experienced Spaniard played four times in the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 campaign under Sam Allardyce, who dropped Meslier, before the club released him that summer.
Where Are They Now
Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast’s Where Are They Now series.
That has turned out to be an even bigger mistake than the decision to move Caprile on because the former Wigan Athletic man was a veteran presence between the sticks with top-flight experience, whilst the Italian was an inexperienced and young prospect who had yet to prove himself when the Whites let him leave.
Leeds United goalkeeper Joel Robles.
Meslier had just conceded a staggering 12.4 more goals than expected based on the post-shot xG against him in the Premier League, which meant that he was heading into the Championship in poor form.
The 25-year-old dud has now gone on to concede 7.22 more goals than expected and made four errors that have directly led to goals in the second tier since the start of last term, which shows that he has continued to be a liability between the sticks.
Robles, who was hailed as an “incredible” teacher by Marc Roca, should have been kept as an experienced pair of hands to step in for Meslier once it was clear that his poor form had followed him to the Championship, as he has gone on to prove his quality in Portugal with Estoril.

As you can see in the table above, the Spanish titan currently plays for Estoril and has significantly outperformed Meslier whilst playing in a top division.
Robles has consistently bailed his team out, almost preventing seven goals, and these statistics suggest that Leeds would have conceded far fewer goals if they had a goalkeeper of his shot-stopping ability between the sticks instead of their current number one.
Leeds United goalkeeper Joel Robles
Therefore, Leeds already let a perfect upgrade on Meslier leave for £0 when they released the former Wigan and Everton man on a free transfer back in the summer of 2023.
The 34-year-old colossus is proving that age is just a number as he continues to shine in a top European league for Estoril, whilst his former teammate continues to struggle in the Championship.
Not just Bamford: 49ers must sell Leeds dud who's rinsed them of £20m
Leeds United need to brutally offload Patrick Bamford and one other star this summer.
ByEthan Lamb Mar 26, 2025
Leeds could have more points on the board right now if they had a reliable shot-stopper who could consistently prevent goals, like Robles, as they may not have dropped points against Sunderland or Swansea away – for example – without Meslier’s errors.

After an underwhelming 2024-25 campaign with City, which saw Grealish start only seven times in the Premier League and clock 715 minutes on the pitch, the winger is likely to be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium this summer. According to , manager Guardiola is unlikely to involve the winger in the travelling squad that will jet off to the U.S. for the Club World Cup later this month, which further fuels speculations that the Englishman will exit the club.

The report adds that Grealish will be a subject of interest for English as well as overseas sides, as the winger is looking for an opportunity where he could play regularly in the 2025-26 campaign in order to secure a place in Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions squad for the 2026 World Cup. The Cityzens are expected to assist him in finding a new club and are open to allowing him to secure a transfer.

There’s no question Stamford Bridge has enjoyed progress under Enzo Maresca’s tactical guidance this season, but the last few months have exposed holes in the Blues squad.
This is a young team. Todd Boehly’s scattergun spending approach hasn’t quite been streamlined yet but there have been signs of refined focus over the past year.
The issue is that Cole Palmer is currently out of sorts, and Chelsea’s frontline is suffering as a result.
The recruitment team are going to be called into play, no doubt, but Chelsea need to rid the team of several pieces of deadwood too.
Who Chelsea need to sell this summer
Sadly, it hasn’t worked out. In 2023, Chelsea signed Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £52m, but injuries and a struggle to identify his best position have left the Frenchman with only six starts and three goals in the Premier League this term.
Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in completing a move in January, but it didn’t come to fruition. Nkunku may well be sold at the end of the season, with Maresca backed to put more of his own flair on the team.
Maresca named Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka to be among the most probable permanent departures before the winter market. Chilwell did leave, but only on loan to Crystal Palace. Expect both to be gone next term.
Then of course, the goalkeeping department requires something of an overhaul, with both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen enduring something of an error-stricken crisis this season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is producing solid stuff out on loan with Bournemouth, but reports from February have suggested Chelsea have compiled a four-man shortlist ahead of the off-season and will act.
It’s clear the Blues need a new centre-forward to jockey with Nicolas Jackson. Nkunku might be off, while Joao Felix has only scored once in eight games on loan at Milan, and after failing to hit the ground running in London, it’s unlikely he will feature prominently next year.
Truthfully, this is a squad in transition and will need more facework if the loftiest heights are to be reached. There’s a player above all the aforementioned who must be cut from the books this summer, and like Felix, he’s not even a part of Maresca’s set-up right now.
Not just Nkunku: Chelsea's forgotten man is on borrowed time
Nkunku has flattered to deceive, sure, but he’s still got the potential to spark his career back to life at the highest level, perhaps back in the Bundesliga with Bayern.
Chalkboard
However, the same can’t be said for Raheem Sterling, whose regression over the past several years has reached its nadir at the Emirates with Arsenal.
Raheem Sterling for Chelsea
Chelsea signed him from Manchester City in a deal worth £47.5m in the summer of 2022, and though Sterling impressed in flashes, Maresca’s arrival spelt the end of his west London journey.
Last season, under Mauricio Pochettino, Sterling served an important role, indeed scoring eight times from only 22 starts in the Premier League. But the cracks were starting to show, the wear and tear from an unrelenting career beginning to catch up with him.
He was severed from the first-team reckoning, with the club’s Italian head coach making it clear he wanted a different profile of winger. Arsenal handed him a lifeline, bringing him in on loan late in the day on summer’s transfer deadline day. You’re about to see the best of me, he cried. That hasn’t been the case.
It’s not worked out at Arsenal, with his failure to nail down a starting berth in spite of the Gunners’ injury crisis rather damning.
Reporter Ed Aarons has noted that he’s “struggling” and it’s difficult to see a positive way out for Sterling at either London club.
Limited to just six starts across the Premier League and Champions League, the five-time league winner has registered just one assist. He hasn’t scored. Moreover, Sterling is averaging only 1.5 duels and 0.7 dribbles per game in the top flight, underscoring his athletic depletion.

His decline has been a gradual thing. Growth and regression are not linear in football, and Sterling has played an almighty amount of football even at 30 years old.
Indeed, having played 391 Premier League matches, Sterling is the fourth-highest active appearance holder in the division, behind James Milner, Ashley Young and James Ward-Prowse.
He will return to Chelsea at the end of the season and is contracted until 2027. His value is plummeting – Transfermarkt record the England international is presently worth just £19m – but given he pockets £350k per week, he must be sold for the greater good of the club.
If Nkunku is sold this summer, Chelsea will need to invest in more depth and quality across the frontline, doubly so if Sterling is freed from the books.
However, such things need to happen. Chelsea are at a critical juncture and must act with incision – luckily, say one thing for Boehly, he’s never been without ambition.
