With Gabriel missing again through injury, the goalscoring burden has fallen on the shoulders of Saliba from set-pieces and he’s not let Nicolas Jover or Arteta down one bit.

While his goal against Manchester United a few days ago went in off his backside, this goal was rather more deliberate, sticking the ball home from a matter of yards out after Kai Havertz had nodded it into the Frenchman’s path.
Saliba wasn’t the only positive. After a monster performance against the Red Devils in midweek, Declan Rice was a surging forward from midfield once again.
His dead-ball delivery was inch-perfect on a number of occasions and he left the field having completed four of his seven crosses, three key passes and a 98% pass success rate overall. Not bad at all.
That said, who was the main man at fault in west London this weekend? It was arguably Jakub Kiwior.

Fear. That was the primary feeling among Arsenal supporters inside the Emirates last Wednesday. Gabriel was absent, as too was Riccardo Calafiori.
However, their deputies in Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko did a fine job of minimising the threat posed by Ruben Amorim’s team.
In that game, the Poland international was near flawless, leaving the field with an 85% pass success rate and a duel success rate of 80%, losing just one all night.
That same level of performance was not apparent in the away clash at Fulham with the former Spezia man at fault for the hosts’ only goal of the game.
Kenny Tete played a ball in behind the Arsenal defence which wasn’t cut out by Kiwior. It looked as though he was caught in two minds. The ball was there for the Pole to throw himself at and make an intervention or he could have backtracked sooner and stopped Jimenez from racing in behind.
Unfortunately, Kiwior was able to do neither and allowed the Mexican to dart away from the defence and fire past David Raya.
It has been a week that’s arguably summed up the 24-year-old’s time in north London. Inconsistent.

Handed a 5/10 rating by the Standard’s Simon Collings, it doesn’t make for great reading from a statistical point of view either. Kiwior may have completed 89% of his passes but he did not make a tackle, was dribbled past once and didn’t win a single ground duel either.
He will have better days, that’s for sure, but if Gabriel or Calafiori are fit when Arsenal take on Monaco in the Champions League they must return to the side.

Lisa Keightley will leave her position as England Women’s head coach at the end of the summer after deciding not to pursue the option of a contract extension.Keightley was appointed in late 2019, and guided England to the final of the 2022 ODI World Cup. She also oversaw runs to the semi-finals of the 2020 T20 World Cup and Commonwealth Games, where England were beaten in the bronze-medal match on Sunday.She will continue to coach the team until the end of the home season, with limited-overs series against India scheduled next month. There was moisture in the air in the first phase of Scotland’s innings and, in their quest to rush through 20 overs and ensure a full game was played, Sri Lanka had spinners operating at either end. When the umpires called for drinks after the 17th over, Tharanga dutifully jogged his tray on to the field. But Sri Lanka didn’t want to slow the game down. WHAT HAPPENED?
There have been plenty of reports in recent months about interest in Girma from abroad, with her having emerged as one of the most talented center backs in the entire game already, aged just 24. Indeed, after helping her country win gold at the Olympic Games last summer, USWNT boss Emma Hayes described Girma as "the best defender I've ever seen".

Lyon, home of USWNT team-mate Lindsey Horan, have been linked with her, as have Arsenal. However, understands that it is Chelsea who are currently favorites to land Girma's signature, which could come at the cost of $1 million (£820,000). The current world-record fee for a transfer in the women's game is $862,000 (£706,000), which Bay FC paid to sign Racheal Kundananji from Madrid CFF last year.

Given that potential price tag, it is unlikely that Girma leaves the San Diego Wave for another NWSL side. That's because league rules require a salary cap tax if a club spends over a net $500,000 (£409,000) on transfer fees.

New San Diego boss Jonas Eidevall, and the new ownership which took over in October, will certainly be keen to avoid losing Girma, who is out of contract at the end of 2026. It'll be up to them to renew that deal and avoid losing the defender to a European giant.
It’s time to bounce back for Newcastle United. Only, this afternoon’s opponents in the Premier League happen to be Manchester City.
It’s been an indifferent start to the 2024/25 campaign but the Magpies have claimed ten points from 15 without actually playing all that well – last weekend’s defeat at Fulham was a downward turning point; a win would have put Eddie Howe’s side top, temporarily at least.

But it was a gloomy display that now puts added emphasis on claiming a result against the imperious champions. Howe would be wise to enforce a change or two.
Kieran Trippier's performance vs Fulham
Kieran Trippier was drafted in for his first Premier League start of the season at Craven Cottage, but he produced an effort that left the Magpies faithful wanting.

The 34-year-old has fallen out of favour this term and was heavily linked with a move away from England at the end of the summer transfer window, but his sale would have heightened concerns relating to depth and so he remains at St. James’ Park.
Unfortunately, he flattered to deceive in the place of Tino Livramento and must not be handed another starting berth this weekend. In their post-match player ratings, The Shields Gazette criticised the recently-retired England international’s ‘difficult afternoon’ against the electric Alex Iwobi, who made five key passes, giving Trippier a 5/10 score.

It’s acceptable that Trippier – who notably lost 75% of his duels on the day – doesn’t have the wheels he once did, but for that fact, he cannot start against Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side. He must return to the bench.
Why Kieran Trippier must be dropped
This season, across his three Premier League appearances, Trippier has averaged 0.3 dribbles and 2.3 successful duels per game, as per Sofascore.

Of course, he’s only started once, but if Iwobi can cause him all sorts of problems and leave him struggling to make a positive impression in the duel, then there’s every chance that the likes of Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish or Phil Foden could inhibit him too.
Doku could be the obvious choice to send the veteran into a spin. As per FBref, the mercurial Belgian ranks among the top 2% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and the top 1% for progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90.
Foden also dribbles with buttery grace, seemingly glued to the ball as he slaloms past defenders. The 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Season also knows Trippier well, having played alongside him for the Three Lions over the years.
That’s why Livramento must return to the starting line-up. The 21-year-old is energetic and dynamic and, crucially, has won 60% of his ground duels in the top flight this season, averaging 6.0 per game.
Trippier still brings more innate creativity to Newcastle’s right side but Livramento has the balance and athleticism to score a big upset and capitalise on the visitors’ absence of Rodri.
It won’t be easy, but Newcastle can claim a good result in this one…
